This is a fractionated, liquid, non-greasy coconut oil that doesn't solidify in cooler weather like ours in the UK. Fractionated means it has had the longer chain, more solid, fatty acids removed - they heat it with steam, cool it slowly and remove the solid bits, basically. This also makes it really stable and it doesn't go off. But it still contains all the medium chain triglycerides found naturally in coconut - hence the MCT name. Many liquid coconut oils are hydrogenated, actually. This definitely is not.
It's not quite as nourishing as solid pure coconut oil and has less of a coconutty smell. But I found it is a great, light oil for my face when I wasn't able to use anything but coconut. The solid coconut oil drove me a bit batty trying to melt it, was far too heavy for my skin and I didn't like smelling like a coconut all day! This absorbs quickly, is very skin-softening, non cloggy and has all the medium fatty acids still in it, so a good compromise I thought. My current daily facial moisturiser is this MCT oil plus borage and red raspberry seed.
This oil is also really good for dry hair because it is one of very few oils that can penetrate the hair strand. It helps prevent the loss of proteins and makes hair more resistant to damage. Nice, shiny hair conditioner, basically! It's thin enough to use in most spray bottles, which makes hair care easier.
People often ingest MCTs when they are on a keto diet to increase fat consumption. They are more easily and rapidly digested than other types of fats and provide energy, support the metabolism and are burned by the body for energy and fuel. In conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise, consuming MCT Oil can support weight management.
How to Use:
You can use it as is or mix it with other oils, creams, balms etc. It forms a protective skin barrier, which slows down water loss, so good for eczema and dry skin, but it's not heavy or cloggy. It gives good 'slip' in massage terms so is great for that.
Comes in a beautiful Italian glass bottle. External use only. Keep cool and not in direct sunlight. Patch test before use as always and avoid if you have any related allergies.
